  6. finally got round to signing your guestbook, I have just had the first of my own homegrown courgettes and runner beans this week but am sure it's all rather meagre in comparissn to proper gardeners although they were very nice! Keep up the good work. Jo.

  7. Jo, hello and welcome! How lovely to have enjoyed your first veg already. I think gardeners producing vast amounts sometimes wonder where to put it all! I'm happy with just a summer's taste of home-grown and love the growing as much as the eating! Caro x

  9. Thanks for the comment on my barefoot grower blog. Always nice to get feedback. I'm afraid I've been so busy in the garden, I find it hard to blog regularly. Gardening in the heat of Southern California is pretty exhausting, but things sure to grow fast! I enjoyed reading your blog too and will keep checking it to remind me of home! Many kind regards, Anna.

  10. Hello Jen, nice to meet you and I love the name of your blog! It sums up my weekend perfectly with the rain we've had! Thanks for your comments.

Anna, lovely to hear from you. I hope one day to see you back in your Cornish polytunnel (so beautiful!) but in the meantime will enjoy your California gardening.

  11. Hi Caro,

I love your blog. I live round the corner in Croftdown Road and have just started growing veg in the garden of my estate which I hope to get neighbours and kids involved in. I'd love to come and see your garden and get some tips. Also interested in whether you've found Capital Growth useful for training, funding etc. I'm around this weekend - if you're in the garden would it be OK to pop by and chat?

  12. Hi Sara, thanks for leaving this message - I stupidly replied via email to "no response at gmail"; no wonder I didn't hear from you! My apologies. Anyway, I'll be in the garden most evenings this week after 6.30 and, weather permitting, during the day on Wednesday. Why don't you email me (yorkrisegrowers at gmail dot com) and let me know if you're able to pop round? Caro x

  14. Akkie, thank you for your lovely comment; it's great to know that by reading my blog you've found some helpful advice. I hope I'm still learning well into my 70s and beyond! Caro x

  15. There are so many good blogs around, Caro that it's difficult to keep up with them all. I could spend all day reading...
I get a real sense of place, history and community from your blog. And you're growing some very interesting veg.
Thanks for visiting Planticru Notes .I'm looking forward to reading about your garden in 2012.

    1. I entirely agree Janet! Every time I sit down to write a post, I get distracted by other blog posts - there's a lot of passion for gardening and friendship out there. I hope to be growing even more interesting veg in 2012 - but only the stuff I'm likely to eat! Am now following your blog which is another of those 'very good reads'! Caro x

  16. Enjoyed visiting your blog and viewing your great photos. The UK has a lot more urban gardens that achieve much more. It's quite different here in Ontario. Good for you! Cheers!

    1. Heidi, thanks for your lovely comment, it's much appreciated. It's great to meet other gardeners, especially interesting when they're from other countries. There seems to be a growing emphasis on making the most of any space available - lots of balcony gardening happening! - although there are still plenty of gardens lying untended I'm sure. I just love being able to have a space to garden in!

    Hi Caro

Good to see your blog - been really useful to identify a pretty pest and what to do with it - the rosemary beetle - I live in Liverpool and have turned my little front garden into a herb garden to attract bees etc, but I have unwittingly created a Michelin starred restaurant for these beetles. Although they only seem to like one type of lavender at the moment - I shall be out daily checking - I have notified RHS
    Thanks

    1. Hi Karen, thank you for your vigilance in keeping a watch out for the Rosemary Beetle - and for taking the time to report it to the RHS. I'm always looking and found some on a walk past our local Fire Station a few weeks ago. I had a word with them and they passed the news onto their gardeners. Glad to report the beetles are now under control but it pays to keep going back and checking!

    3. Hi Claire - nice to meet you and thanks for commenting. I'll be taking some inspiration from your blog too! Good luck with the minimalism; as with gardening, it's something to be kept on top of!

    1. Hello Jenny! Lovely to meet you and thanks for both popping over and commenting. I think I'd rather be in your Urban cottage than here in North West London - you have much better views in Wales! As Alex Mitchell says, I'm a "Rurbanite" at heart - accustomed to the city ways but my heart is in the country! Love the chicken proof fence that you've put up around your kitchen garden, I may just have to copy it ... ! :)

    1. Thanks, Sue. All garden visits are a treat but Wisley is great because of the scale of what can be seen! Sorry that you're having a problem leaving comments in the normal way; I'd love to know exactly the problem in case other people are having the same issue. Caro x

    1. I hope you don't find any bugs, Sue! I've just had to lose two rosemary bushes to rosemary beetle and those had to come out completely. I now have fingers crossed that they don't move over to my lavender bushes!
